Keeping Your Kids Safe Online

In todays modern society the typical teenager has all the modern gadgets and gizmos. From iPods to laptops, the high-tech market feeds the needs of the younger generation. It is all to east to think your kids are being nice and quiet in their bedrooms doing their homework on the computer but do you actually know that your kids are safe whilst they browse the internet?

Years ago kids use to hang out on corner streets kicking a ball about, today they sit at home listening to music on their MP3 player or talk to their friends on computer chat messenger systems. It is easy to forget that the same vulnerabilities apply to the teenagers of today then of years ago.

There have been cases of online bullying and with mobile phones an every day item rather then a luxury all kids are a potential target. So how exactly can you keep your kids safe when they are surfing the internet late at night?

Firstly it is very important to talk to your children about the dangers of using the internet, make them aware of what potential hazards there are without scare mongering, after all the internet is a fantastic learning resource. A few basis pointers should be sufficient, such as instructing your child never to give out any personal information on the internet. Online fraud is a booming crime so keeping personal information secret is a must such as address details and bank information.

Teenagers are most at risk when it comes to the internet. They take bigger risks and are more likely to chat to strangers. A good idea is to advise your children that the person behind the keyboard is often a completely different person they seem to be over a chat client. We all like to think our teenage kids are more responsible than what we were at their age but the reality is our kids are even more vulnerable than the older generation.

Installing software on your PC is a good idea if you feel your advice is falling on deaf ears. There are many trial and free versions of parenting control software readily available on the internet that you can try. These have advantages of controlling the website content your kids visit and you can actually manual set various permissions such as allowing your kids to visit educational websites but blocking the sites you feel inappropriate. Setting times of the day where your kids can access their computers for internet use is also a good feature to use.

There are also more practical measures that you can do such as moving the computer downstairs where you can a more careful watch on your kids activities online. By trying to show concern rather then be a tyrant than you should be able to strike a balance with your kids ensuring they have the freedom they want but at the same time knowing they are safe and secure

Kids & Healthy Eating

What parent doesn't want their kids to eat healthier? We've all had to bribe, cajole, threaten and manipulate our children at least once, but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to stoop to such heavy handed tactics? Here are some tips to help you out.

Start early! Don't wait until it's too late and your child's already ruined by sweets and treats. Once they've tasted ice cream, it's harder to get them to eat broccoli. And if you've waited too long then you'll just have to be strong and realize your kids might not like you for a few days.

Make sure you have a good variety of healthy foods available to your children. This prevents them from latching on to one food or one food group. Sure they'll still have their favorites, but a variety of vegetables and fruits will help them to get used to all of their varied tastes.

Try combing foods they like with foods they don't. For example, stir-frying onions with zucchini, broccoli, carrots, and snow peas isn't as bad as sitting down to a whole plate of broccoli. It also helps to make sure the pieces are small enough so your child gets some carrots with her zucchini.

Be strong! This is very important for teaching a child to eat what's good for them. Tell them that this is what we're having for dinner and there's nothing else for them to eat. They'll get hungry enough to eat what's served them if there are no other options available.

Which reminds me. Don't bring any food in the house that isn't part of a healthy food plan. That's right! No snacks, cookies, sweetened cereals, pastries, treats - whatever - are permitted. This might seem harsh, but you have to decide who you're raising; healthy, smart kids who don't get sick or fat or sick kids with learning disabilities who grow up to suffer degenerative diseases.

Stay away from people hell-bent on corrupting your children with candy and treats. It's amazing to me how so many well-meaning people like a bank teller or a relative offer my children lollipops or cookies. Teach your children to smile and politely say,
"No thank you." And if it's a relative that's always offering your child a treat, then ask them to stop or stop visiting them (a third option is to make them take care of your kid during his sugar buzz and subsequent crash - they'll never do it again).

Here's another free tip for kids and healthy eating that might fall into the harsh category, but if you think about it seriously you'll see how important it is. Don't let your kids watch commercial TV. Yes! You read this correctly. The majority of the ads on TV are about food and getting your children to eat these unhealthy foods. TV commercials are the nutritional education for 95% of the population and virtually nothing advertised on TV has any nutrition in it. You'll see a huge decrease in your child's food cravings when you turn off the tube.

And finally, the most important tip of all is for you to set a great example. How can you expect your children to eat fish, vegetables and whole wheat bread when you don't? How can you get them to give up ice cream when you won't? They look to you as a role model so you might as well live like one because if you don't, then you have no right to complain about their poor eating habits, obesity, ADHD and the time you have to take off work to care for a sick child.

Kids Should Learn the Value of Money

Children should learn the value of money. Too many times parents simply give their kids money to go to the movies or to buy the latest gizmo without the child understanding that the cash did not just get pulled out of thin air. Kids will learn quickly if they can get something for nothing. It is far better for the child to learn that money has to be earned.

Parents are not teaching their children how to earn money at a young age. They give the child a toy just to spoil them and wonder why the item is only played with for a couple of days and now remains in the corner of the room gathering dust. The child did not really want that toy. All they wanted was for somebody to buy them something. This cycle continues until the parents are willing to stop buying the stuff and start allowing the child to value what they are given.

Everyone knows that the things that you buy for yourself are those items that you will take good care of. Spending your own money that you have saved, then buying that treasured item, makes it that much more important to you. You know that you wanted that item and you will take care of it.

It should be no different for your children. Really, at any age when they start demanding things to make themselves happy, they should start working for that item. You and the child will find out very quickly just how bad they wanted that item.

There are numerous chores that a child can do around the house to raise money. Have older kids rake the leaves or cut the grass. Younger kids can straighten up the magazines or run out and get the paper in the driveway every day. The point is they should earn the right to purchase the item they covet so badly.

Kids should tell their parents that they are working towards buying something. Parents can then set monetary values on the different chores the child will do. If the child wants to buy a $50 video game, it does no one any good if they were to pay them $50 simply to sweep out the garage. The child should be made to work and save.

Ideally for older children it would be great if they were to find extra work to perform at a neighbor's house. You will find that when kids really want something they will be constantly asking if there is anything they can do to make some money. Parents should view this as both a way to instill some financial values in their children as well as making the child a functioning member of the family.

Making the children more financially accountable will help free the parents from having to perform all the household chores. In turn, the children will understand the value of money and learn how to set and accomplish their goals.

Starting A Child Day Care Center From Scratch

You can start a child day care center with a minimal investment. This is a great business opportunity for anybody that loves kids and wants to turn it into a career. In addition to the minimal investment that is needed, you will also need a space for your kids, being that you will be running your business out of your home. All in all, a child day care business is one of the best opportunities to make a lot of money without having to spend tons of it up front.

If you are going to start a day care business you need to make sure that you are aware of every last detail. Remember, you will be taking care of other peoples children. If anything happens to them you will be responsible. So the best way to avoid this is by simply getting everything lined up from the very beginning.

The first thing that you will need to do is make sure that your home is safe enough to run this business. In other words, do you have the room to house all of the children without posing a threat to their safety? You should have a designated area in your home that you can run your day care business. Never try to turn your entire home into the day care. This will only make a mess and make it much more difficult for you to keep track of everything that is going on.

Also, your home needs to be child proof. You cannot have anything that may harm the children that you are watching. This includes things such as stairs that they could fall down or small items that they could choke on. This is why having a designated area for your child day care business is of the utmost importance.

After you have your home set up, you need to make sure that you have all of the proper certificates and insurance in order to run a business out of your home. Many people overlook this and end up running into big problems down the line. Do not let this happen to you. Get in touch with the appropriate people in your area and ask them what you need to do in order to set up a child day care business. More than likely your local municipality will be able to give you the information that you need in order to get started.

Starting a child day care business can be very profitable and quite fun if you love children. Just make sure that before you start your day care business that you have all of the loose ends tied up. This will ensure your chances of success as your business grows.

Child care options for work at home moms

Taking care of children can be one of the biggest obstacles that women have when they want to have their own home-based business. The reality is that toddlers are not going to keep quiet during business calls or take a nap when you want to get work done. This article will give you some practical ways that you can get childcare for free or for a minimal cost.

At first you thought it would be OK to have the kids around all the time. You thought about no commutes, flexible hours, lunch with the kids. However, if you want to really get work done, you are going to have to be creative in childcare options.

One way to have childcare is to create a childcare co-op. This is basically a group of work at home parents that swap child care duties. Keep track of the hours that you watch each child and make sure everybody gets the fair amount. The benefit of this is that you get free childcare. The downside is that you can't work while you are watching other people's children.

The next way is to mom-swap. Instead of many people working together this is basically you and a friend trading off childcare days. Make sure you set clear boundaries, so neither of you take advantage of the other. It would also help if the kids get along well. If they don't this could end up to be a bad experience.

You could also share a sitter with a friend. Have the sitter watch both of your children at the same time and split the costs. Make sure that you communicate with your friend to avoid complications.

You could barter services in exchange for child care. This will save you money and still pay the person taking care of your children.

It is important to make a plan to take care of your children during the time that you are working.

You may also want to go to the church and ask the Sunday school director if they have any babysitters. They may have someone that would take care of your children for a low rate. Make sure to ask for referrals.

For this to work, you are going to have to spread the word that you are looking for childcare. If you take the time to look around and ask around, you can find the best childcare at the lowest price.
